Stacy’s favorite!
The flavors in Barbera vary widely depending upon the climate where it grows, and the winemaking techniques used when crafting the wine. Our Barbera, from Lodi, (a warmer climate) shows flavors of blackberries, licorice and jam. Aging in oak softened the edges of overly-aggressive spiciness. We blended in Zinfandel to enhance the fruit-forward style to craft a complex and satisfying sip of wine.
This wine was harvested by hand and delivered to m2 in half-ton bins at 11:55 a.m., on October 1, 2018. After extensive hand-sorting the fruit was crushed and pumped to a stainless-steel tank. Fermentation was started the next day utilizing a cultured wine yeast known as BRL97. This yeast was isolated from vineyard sites in the Piedmont region of Italy. Fermentation proceeded as expected, the wine was pressed to a tank to settle then racked into oak barrels.
