Overview

2017 Clockstoppers

  • A complex wine that showcases a different grape with each sip
  • A truly ensemble cast (like the ladies on the bottle?)
  • Deep dark and not at all brooding

Our 2017 Clockstoppers is a blend of five grape varietals, and by pure coincidence five lovely ladies grace the label (or is it a conspiracy?)

The women are our winemaker’s great-aunts and the photo was taken in the late 1880s on his family’s farm near Exeter, Missouri. The grapes in this wine were grown in vineyards in Lodi and near Plymouth, in the California Shenandoah Valley appellation.

The women were sisters, and their names are Elizabeth, Rebecca, Malinda, Dicyand Amanda. This blend, in no particular order, contains Syrah, Carignane, Tempranillo, Barbera and Zinfandel. The aunts were devout Baptist church-going women and disagreed with frivolity and the consumption of wine. This wine adds frivolity and is delicious. The sisters were stern, sturdy frontier women aged by farm work and the American civil war. The wine is friendly and relaxing, and was aged for 17 months in m2’s cellar.

The wine is medium-bodied and complexly flavored with notes of wild berries, aromas of smoke, caramel and esoteric spices. The sisters, according to family stories were also spicy and full of body, but no records can actually verify that for us! The Montgomery sisters all lived into their late 80s; this wine should age gracefully for three to six years. We suggest you enjoy this wine paired with almost anything prepared on a grill, especially pork, red meats of course, and maybe even richly flavored fish such as wild-caught salmon or Ahi tuna. The great-aunts would pair it with a whipping behind the barn. We know the great-aunts would not have approved of this wine, but we hope you will!
